Paris Best Art Exhibitions – WINTER Edition

This winter is full of great Paris art exhibitions in galleries and museums.

Here you will find the best art shows going on in December, January and February in the French capital.

If you are visiting Paris and looking for what to do and fun activities then this is for you. As the weather will be cold and rainy days will come, it may be even great to bookmark this list for one of those days you wont be outside too much.

One of the exceptional things about art in paris is that we have so many museums that are well known such as the Louvre, Musee d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou etc but also that we have some of the best small museums (link) in the world like Musee de la Vie Romantic, Maison de Victor Hugo, Musee National Gustave Moreau etc.

If this is your first time in Paris you probably want to hit the bigger well known ones off your list – and you can get a Skip the Line ticket to the LOUVRE here and a special pass for MUSEE d’ORSAY here

Paris Philharmonie

Nigerian and international icon Fela Kuti is being honored at the Philharmonie museum of Paris.

THE AFROBEAT FACTORY

The musical genre that Fela developed – which he termed “Afrobeat” – is rooted in a mixture of influences, from Yoruba rhythms to free jazz with elements of soul and funk. The origins of the constantly evolving style also owe much to West-African high-life with significant use of brass and percussion, as seen in the Afrobeat of Fela’s first band, Koola Lobitos. With his subsequent bands Africa 70 and Egypt 80, Fela surrounded himself with a growing number of musicians, producing increasingly complex symphonic works as he did. This exhibition traces his path, presenting the artist’s musical development and highlighting and sharing the sources of and changes in Afrobeat“

Fondation Louis Vuitton

A mixture of two worlds of very talented artists Monet and Micthel – who worked coincidentally just a few small towns away form each other’s atelier Giverny and Vethueil are in the same area not too far from Paris.

Also the Fondation LV is beautiful and a must visit for any architect and art lover coming to Paris.

“The “Monet – Mitchell” exhibitions present each artist’s unique response to a landscape and nature, illustrated in a particularly immersive manner. In his last paintings, the Water Lilies, Monet aimed to recreate in his studio the motifs he observed at length on the surface of his water lily pond in Giverny. Joan Mitchell, on the other hand, would explore a memory or a sense of the emotions she felt while in a particular place that was dear to her, perceptions that remained vivid beyond space and time. She would create these abstract compositions at La Tour, her studio in Vétheuil, a small French village.”
