Embracing the Serenity of Paris in August
Paris is an absolute delight in August! The city transforms into a tranquil haven, giving you the unique sensation of having the entire metropolis to yourself. This year is particularly special with the Olympics in town, yet ironically, Paris feels even quieter. It seems many people anticipated chaos and decided to stay away. This unexpected calm is refreshing, though I can’t help but feel for the business owners. July, typically my busiest month, saw only two tours!
However, I’m not complaining. I am so lucky in many ways. After a rigorous Kickstarter campaign for my new book Local Paris, and some exciting collaborations with the Olympic Committee (check out the attached map) and Timeout Paris on various projects, this quiet period is perfectly timed. I’m exhausted and ready for a much-needed vacation!
I’m currently writing to you from the picturesque north of France, enjoying a few blissful days with my in-laws. The massive garden is a paradise for our cats, who are having the time of their lives. Our days here are filled with delicious meals, family gatherings, and a lot of relaxation.
Yesterday, we ventured into the heart of Lille, and I was taken aback by the bustling crowds. While Paris feels deserted, Lille seems to be the new hotspot, perhaps due to the basketball championships or some other draw.
Today’s agenda is all about unwinding and visiting the local fruit and veggie market. I can’t wait to see what fresh produce we’ll discover!
For those of you planning a trip to Paris and looking for an off-the-beaten-path adventure tailored to your interests, I’ll be back on August 15th, and my calendar is open! Check it out here!
