Paris August things to do

In the month of August, Paris typically empties out of locals but still has a lot to offer. Warm weather events, free activities, and festivals close to the end of the eventful summer holiday. The famous city of lights always has its hands open to tourists who desire an unforgettable holiday experience.

In this article, we will be looking at the very exciting August things to do in Paris, for the first time or for seasoned travelers.

Why visit in August?

The month of August, being the last summer month can be extremely fun-packed. Most people feel the only thing amazing about Paris is the Eiffel tower. That’s absolutely false. With tons of events, local dishes, and historical monuments to visit, Paris in August is amazing. Not to mention the weather is ideal to wander around all day, as Paris is a walking city.

Us locals like to call it flâner- the art of wandering around for pleasure, strolling with nothing set in mind.

August in Paris is also the perfect time to go to the Flea Markets, Picnic in front of the Eiffel, enjoy the many beautiful parks such as Tuilleries Garden, buy a vintage book from the Bouquinists along the Seine River, try crepes or french onion soup for the first time or a buy signature perfume at Molinard… and the list goes on.

August is also the month when the city empties out of locals, so you may want to check to see WHAT’S OPEN IN PARIS IN AUGUST. Check Instagram and companies’ Facebook pages for their annual holiday hours, and remember it’s always a good idea to make a reservation.

August weather in Paris

The Paris weather in August is almost perfect, with temperatures ranging from 20 to 24 degrees Celsius and longer daytime. In August, Paris experiences a few days of rain, and many cool nights fitting for a good rest after a sunny day. This makes exploration of the amazing city ideal for lovers of cool weather.

What to pack?

Silk Scarf

You can wear it as a headscarf, wear it as a top with jeans or simply have it tucked in your handbag for a chilly evening out especially if you are planning a night boat cruise along the Seine River.

This one from Banana Republic is one of my faves

Light Sweater

I know it’s the summertime and the mention of a sweater sounds very unnecessary, but I assure you that getting one is essential. At night the weather can drop to as low as 16 degrees Celsius, so having a sweater available would be wise

.

Flirty sundress

You should bring one or two light and comfortable sundresses to make sure you look good and feel fresh and dry during the day. Or pick one up from Sezane

Flat shoes

Paris is a classic city with old, cobblestone streets. These grounds are not suitable for heels at all. Ladies should get flat shoes that are comfortable as they would do a lot of sightseeing and touring. Also, a pair of loafers or any very comfortable flat shoes for men will do. The heels and other date night shoes can be worn for special dinners, where a car can drop the couple at the restaurant.

Veja is the brand everyone is wearing right now ad you can buy a Paris at the local store here in the Marais.

Paris has lots of cobblestones so if you plan on looking stylish at least be comfy in this low heel Mule sandals for a date night out

Or a study heeled espadrille

Hands-Free Purse or Travel Bag

This is a very essential item. A cross-body bag, fanny pack, or very secure handbag is a must. This is to keep your belonging safe and always close to you at all times as many pickpockets are often lurking in tourist locations.

You can find this one on Nordstrom

This one from Sezane that everyone here is crazy for

Cosmetics

Paris naturally has hard water so be sure to pack a small bottle of moisturizer. Also, you won’t want the sun to damage your skin so a bottle of sunscreen is essential.

Camera and Small Tripod

My camera of choice these days has been my iPhone 13, but I highly recommend a tripod with a timer or something that allows you to go hands-free for those amazing shots with you in them.

Stay – Seven Hotel

I know some couples will be looking to spend some quality time in the city of love this summer, the Seven Hotel is one of the top hotels to discover for a romantic stay.

This hotel is among the first boutique-design hotels with modern modifications that don’t entirely alter its Haussmanian design. Asides from the in-room massage that can be arranged, couples can enjoy a romantic night under the stars.

A nice cup of coffee or any refreshing drink needs to be taken in a very comfortable and subtle environment. Fabula, the garden restaurant inside Musee Carnivalet is one of the best places to have a drink and a good read, or just relax and enjoy the view. The beautiful greenery in the garden gives you that soothing feeling to relax your mind and body.

I wouldn’t especially recommend food – if you’re in Le Marais, try Robert et Louise instead.

Love locks

You may have seen movies where two lovers get a padlock with their names on it and lock it to a bridge.  This is a very old tradition practiced by lovers on the bridges of the Seine River in Paris, where couples express their forever love by inscribing their names on a padlock, locking it on the bridge, and throwing the keys into the river.

Well, we don’t have the Love Lock Bridge anymore BUT that hasn’t stopped folks from attaching locks other please such as around the Sacré Coeur church in Montmartre.
