– A Hidden Café Gem Along Canal de l’Ourcq
In Paris, there’s nothing quite like l’heure du goûter—that magical afternoon moment when the city slows down for a sweet treat and a cup of coffee. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, embracing this ritual is an essential part of experiencing Paris like a true Parisian. As a local tour guide and self-appointed coffee ambassador, I’ve got you covered for all the legit spots.

Recently, I found myself strolling along Canal de l’Ourcq in the lively 19th arrondissement, a lesser-explored part of Paris where locals gather to play pétanque, table tennis, or simply soak up the relaxed waterside atmosphere. We spend countless warm weather days at La Villette Park. Plus just around the corner and the iconic MK2 cinema nearby, this area is buzzing with creativity and local charm. Naturally, we had to take a break at Koko Coffee Shop, a cozy café that has already won over many coffee lovers in Paris—including me!
Koko Coffee Shop – Coffee, Cakes, and Canal Views
Located at 14 Quai de la Loire, right by the canal, Koko Coffee Shop is the perfect spot to pause and enjoy a high-quality coffee with a delicious homemade pastry. It’s a welcoming space with a minimalist yet warm aesthetic, where you can sip your drink while watching the world go by.
What to Try at Koko Coffee Shop?
Perfectly brewed coffee – from expertly pulled espressos to creamy matcha lattes.
Delicious homemade cakes and pastries – I went for the carrot cake, and it was divine!
Relaxed, local ambiance – Whether you sit inside or grab a spot by the canal, it’s the perfect escape from the city’s hustle, not far from the Stalingrad metro.
Since we visited at the end of the week and just before the year wrapped up, the pastry selection was a bit more limited, but everything still looked (and tasted!) amazing.
Why Visit Koko Coffee Shop?
Beyond the great coffee, Koko Coffee Shop is a gateway to discovering the 19th arrondissement—a part of Paris that’s still off the beaten path for many tourists. Here, you’ll find:
- Locals playing pétanque in the nearby squares.
- Table tennis matches happening along the canal.
- The vibrant cultural scene at La Villette is home to music venues, exhibitions, and open-air film screenings.
- The relaxed, creative energy of the 19th, where artists, students, and families enjoy the laid-back riverside lifestyle.
Whether you’re in the neighborhood for a film at MK2, a stroll along the canal, or a picnic in La Villette, Koko Coffee Shop is the perfect place to fuel up and take in the local vibe.
