Where to Stay in Saint-Germain-des-Prés

If the restaurant guide ( see my Paris Newsletter on substack ) was about where to eat on the Left Bank, this one is about where to rest your head-and do it beautifully. Saint-Germain-des-Prés has some of the most wonderful hotels in Paris: grand and iconic. You name it; small and intimate, newly arrived and buzzing, quietly timeless. The neighbourhood you sleep in shapes the entire trip, and this one, in my opinion, is the best one to wake up in.

Here is my curated list. Something for every kind of traveller, every kind of trip.

Ps you can trust me I’ve been living in Paris for almost 20 years!

Pavillon Faubourg Saint-Germain & Spa

Address: 5 Rue du Pré aux Clercs, 75007 Paris

Phone: 01 42 61 01 51

One of the cool kids on the block, and it knows it, in the best possible way. Opened in 2022, the Pavillon has already become one of the most talked-about addresses on the Left Bank. It sits on a quiet, almost hidden street tucked between the Seine and Café de Flore. As you can imagine, this gives it that rare Parisian quality of feeling like a secret even when it isn’t. 47 rooms, a gym, a pool, a spa stocked with Codage skincare products, and a restaurant, Les Parisiens, where actual locals come to eat dinner. Always a good sign. The Bar James Joyce is worth a stop even if you’re not staying here. If you want something chic, new, and a little under the radar, this is your place.

Hôtel des Grands Voyageurs

Address: 34 Rue de l’Abbé Grégoire, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 49 54 87 00

One of the most exciting hotel openings Paris has seen in years, and the hype is completely deserved. Art Deco interiors designed by acclaimed designer Fabrizio Casiraghi, a speakeasy bar hidden within, and a press list that includes Vogue, Condé Nast Traveller. Also, The Times, which ranked it the second best hotel in Paris in 2024. It has the feeling of an art collector’s private residence-layered, atmospheric, full of beautiful objects-which is exactly the kind of place you want to come home to after a full day on the Left Bank. If you’re like me and you’re the kind of traveller who wants their hotel to be part of the experience, not just a place to sleep. Trust me, I live here!

Hôtel Bel Ami

Address: 7 Rue Saint-Benoît, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 42 61 53 53

I recommned this oen a lot to my tour clients. And its perfect for solo travelers too. Sleek, design-forward, and right on Boulevard Saint-Germain, which means you step out of the front door directly into the pulse of the neighbourhood. Great for first-timers to Paris who want to be in the middle of everything: cafés, bookshops, galleries, boutiques. It attracts a creative, well-travelled crowd and delivers consistently good service. Think of it as your very stylish home base for a proper Left Bank week.

Hôtel Montalembert

Address: 3 Rue de Montalembert, 75007 Paris

Phone: 01 45 49 68 68

Refined, calm, and quietly elegant on the Rue de Montalembert, one of those streets that manages to feel both central and genuinely residential. This is a hotel for people who appreciate good taste without fuss. Chic couples would love it here. The rooms are beautifully put together, the service is warm and attentive without being stiff, and the whole experience has the feeling of being very well looked after. A classic choice that never disappoints.

Phone: 01 55 42 74 74

Steps from the Rue de Buci market, the wine bars, the bakeries, and everything else that makes this neighbourhood worth being in. If you want to feel like you are actually living in Saint-Germain rather than visiting it, this is your hotel. Boutique, full of character, and genuinely charming-the kind of address you tell people about when you get home.

Hôtel Villa des Prés

Address: 29 Rue de Buci, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 89 40 05 00

Did you see that last photo with the breakfast en terrase? My oh my, you’ll love it here! Small, intimate, and quietly beautiful, this one has a quality increasingly rare in Paris hotels: genuine calm. It feels more like stepping into a private residence than checking into a hotel, with garden views and a level of stillness that is hard to find in a city that never really stops. For the traveller who wants beauty and peace over buzz. A deeply restorative choice.

Hôtel Lutetia

Address: 45 Bd Raspail, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 49 54 46 00

No list of Saint-Germain hotels is complete without the Lutetia! She’s the bougie grande dame of the Left Bank, and one of the great hotels of Paris, full stop. Fully restored and reopened in 2018, it is more magnificent than ever: soaring Art Deco architecture, a legendary brasserie, a jazz bar, a stunning spa, and a history that includes Picasso, de Gaulle, and Joséphine Baker as guests. If you are celebrating something-an anniversary, a birthday, a milestone, or simply the fact that you are in Paris-book the Lutetia. Some experiences are worth every centime.

Relais Christine

Address: 3 Rue Christine, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 40 51 60 80

A romantic historic townhouse tucked into a quiet cobblestone courtyard just off the main streets of Saint-Germain, and one of my most-recommended hotels for a special stay. It is the kind of place that stops you in your tracks the moment you walk in: stone vaulted ceilings dating back to the 16th century, exposed beams, and an atmosphere that feels candlelit even in the middle of the day. Discreet, deeply Parisian, and consistently excellent. This is the one I suggest when someone tells me they want their Paris trip to feel like a love letter to the city.

Not to mention one of my all time favorite restaurants is just next door – Le Christine!

Hôtel Belle Juliette & Spa

Address: 92 Rue du Cherche-Midi, 75006 Paris

Phone: 01 42 22 97 40

Named after Juliette Récamier-the legendary Parisian beauty and intellectual who held court in the 19th century, this hotel has her spirit all over it: romantic, warm, full of character. It sits on Rue du Cherche-Midi, one of the loveliest streets in the 6th, and is my go-to recommendation for families or anyone who wants to be close to the Luxembourg Gardens. We did a staycation here years ago and it still remains one of my favorite hotels to recommend to families comign to Paris! (see that Hotel Review here)

The rooms run a little larger than the Left Bank average, which makes a real difference when you are travelling with children or simply want space to breathe. The spa has a small indoor pool, a hammam, and private treatment rooms-all free for guests-which is a genuine luxury at this price point. A really lovely, thoughtful hotel.

Maison Colbert

Address: 7 Rue de l’Hôtel Colbert, 75005 Paris

Phone: 01 56 81 19 00

Technically, in the 5th arrondissement rather than the 6th, but I am including it because it sits right on the border between Saint-Germain and the Latin Quarter. I had to cheat a lil bit. Trust me, anyone staying here is a five-minute walk from everything in this guide. A beautiful, intimate address with a quiet inner garden, some rooms with views of Notre-Dame, and a genuine sense of neighbourhood life. Think about it, If you want to split the difference between two of Paris’s most beloved quartiers, this is exactly where to do it.
