There are many great places to eat in Montmartre, and as someone who lives in the neighborhood, I love to share these restaurants with you! The other day, one of my girlfriends and I took a little midday escape to try L’Almanach, a charming restaurant tucked away at 33 Rue Ramey, right in the heart of Montmartre. Coincidentally, this was the first street I lived on as a sublet for three months before I found my forever home.
The restaurant is also a short walk from Sacre Coeur.
It was one of those gloriously sunny (and admittedly scorching) May afternoons where the light makes Paris look like a movie set. The tables out front where living their best lives decorated with beautiful flowers, inviting us over. We initially wanted to enjoy the terrace, but quickly opted for the cool comfort of the airy indoor space instead. The interior is spacious, filled with light, and cozy without feeling cramped — a welcome retreat from the heat outside.

We kicked things off with the house starters of the day. I had a refreshing cold mint and asparagus soup that was as light and bright as the weather, and my friend went for the stuffed oysters, which were an absolute hit — briny, creamy, and packed with flavor.
For the mains, I couldn’t resist the plat du jour (meals of the days are dishes that change every day and is a great way to discover the diversity of the restaurant for a economic price at lunch time), a hearty and beautifully seasoned chicken and plantain dish that felt like a nod to the African culinary heritage woven into the fabric of nearby La Goutte d’Or. It was soulful, warm, and deeply satisfying (even if the plating itself didn’t do the flavors justice!)
My friend chose the magret de canard, which was perfectly cooked and rich without being overpowering.
The fixed lunch menu is just 20 euros for an entrée and main dish — a total steal for the quality and care that goes into each plate.
The staff was friendly and attentive, and it’s worth noting they speak English too — always helpful if you’re visiting and still brushing up on your French! The kitchen is small, but the flavors and service are big!
If you’re exploring Montmartre and want to dine like a local — away from the tourist traps near Sacré-Cœur, L’Almanach is a perfect stop. Plus, Rue Ramey itself is full of little gems and worth a wander.
As I am always trying to share all the best places to eat, drink, and stay in Paris – feel free to check out my e-book on Montmartre too! It’s full of hidden gems and local tips!
