10 Must-Do Things in Le Marais: Your Ultimate Paris Itinerary
Le Marais is one of Paris’s most enchanting neighborhoods—a vibrant mix of history, art, and modern flair. From centuries-old museums to trendy cafes and markets, this iconic district has something for everyone. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Parisian explorer, our guide to the best things to do in Le Marais is packed with insider tips and detailed recommendations that will help you have an amazing time.
As a local and tour guide, these are some of my favorites, and I’d even say you will love them too!

1. Musee Carnavalet – The Museum of Paris History
Step back in time at Musee Carnavalet, dedicated to the fascinating history of Paris. More than history though its stunning and has a lovely garden.
Discover exquisite artifacts and sumptuous interiors that tell the story of the City of Light. This museum is a treasure trove for history buffs and culture enthusiasts alike—and best of all, it’s free! Explore its halls as many times as you want to soak up the past.
Their garden – when open – is one of my face places to sip a glass of champagne.
23 Rue de Sévigné, 75003 Paris
2. Maison Victor Hugo – A Glimpse into Literary Paris
Immerse yourself in the life of the legendary writer Victor Hugo at his former residence, Maison Victor Hugo. Here, you can wander through a beautifully reconstructed apartment, complete with authentic details that transport you back to the 19th century home. Enjoy a stunning view overlooking the famous Place des Vosges and relax in the charming garden with a delightful bakery downstairs —perfect for an afternoon break with the Cafe Mulot.
You may be even so lucky as to catch one of the many frequent jazz afternoon concerts they have for free.
3. Merci – The Ultimate French Concept Store
Originally launched as a boutique for vintage French furniture and curated local brands, Merci has evolved into a family-friendly concept store. Browse unique fashion, home decor, and even find artisanal gifts. Don’t miss the cozy coffee shop featuring Noir coffee out front and the quirky Used Book Café, where every sip and page invites you to linger longer.
Oh have you seen those Instagram photos of the beautiful red car in the courtyard? It’s here! The tiny FIAT is sort of the mascot of the store.
111 Bd Beaumarchais, 75003 Paris
4. Lunch & Café Charlot – People-Watching on Rue Charlot
Situated on the fashionable Rue Charlot, this bustling eatery is a must-visit for food lovers and fashion enthusiasts. Lunch & Café Charlot offers a diverse menu that caters to all tastes—from classic French escargots to hearty burgers, fresh salads, pasta, and more. I like to say its the perfect place for “picky eaters”. The corner location makes it an ideal spot for people-watching too, all while enjoying a vibrant Parisian meal.
Super location as you can walk to Pierre Herme, Alain Miam Miam, Cortado, and a few other places I love from here.
38 Rue de Bretagne, 75003 Paris
5. Marché Enfants Rouges – Paris’s Oldest Covered Market
Experience the flavors of Paris at Marché Enfants Rouges, the city’s oldest covered market. Savor a global array of culinary delights—from Japanese sushi to Lebanese mezze, Italian pasta, Caribbean spices, and traditional French dishes. This market is a favorite among locals and a foodie paradise for visitors.
Best time is lunchtime as the market does not stay open late into the night. It’s also closed on Mondays so check times online on google before heading out. But it’s great fun because it’s packed with local food lovers.
39 Rue de Bretagne, 75003 Paris

6. Clara & Jonas – Custom Parisian Jewelry
For a truly unique Parisian souvenir, visit Clara Jasmine & Jonas Bowman, where you can design your own custom jewelry. Alternatively, browse their stunning collection of pre-made pieces crafted in their chic Parisian atelier. This intimate shop is perfect for those looking for a personal touch in their fashion accessories.
Jonas makes more rough and masculine designs, and Clara’s focus is on French ancestral lace worked into her pieces.
7. Buly – Iconic French Fragrances and More
Indulge in the timeless charm of Officine Universelle Buly, where traditional French water-based perfumes, oils, and hand creams meet modern luxury. Their artisanal products are a treat for any fragrance lover, and the in-house Italian coffee bar—originating from the original Tortoni store—offers a perfect blend of history and taste. Buly even features a spa for rejuvenating facials.
You can have your items customized with your name – and oh, is there anything more beautiful than romanticizing your normal beauty routines!?
45 Rue de Saintonge, 75003 Paris
8. Falafel & Rue des Rosiers – A Culinary Icon
No trip to Le Marais is complete without sampling the legendary falafel on Rue des Rosiers. Known for its authentic Jewish heritage, this street is dotted with famous spots like Las du Falafel. While some beloved locations have transformed over time (like Mi Va Mi changed into a new Krispy Kreme – no words!! ), the spirit of Le Marais’s culinary scene remains irresistible.
My favorite is Chez Marianne – 2 Rue des Hospitalières Saint-Gervais, 75004 Paris
9. Coffee Culture – Artisan Brews at Pontachoux and Fringe
Coffee aficionados will find plenty to love in Le Marais. Explore artisanal coffee shops such as Pontachoux and Fringe, where carefully crafted brews and cozy atmospheres make for the perfect Parisian pause. Whether you need a morning pick-me-up or an afternoon escape, these cafés are a must-visit.
Rue Pontachoux is a cool one to know, too, because it has some lesser-known boutiques for clothing and vintage!
Fringe Coffee – 106 Rue de Turenne, 75003 Paris
Pontachoux Coffee – 18 Rue du Pont aux Choux, 75003 Paris
10. Place des Vosges – Historic Heart of Le Marais
Finally, wander through the picturesque Place des Vosges, a stunning example of 17th-century French architecture. This historic square is not only an architectural masterpiece but also a vibrant social hub where locals and visitors alike come together to relax, picnic, and soak in the rich history of Le Marais.
Come here in the warmer months and sprawl out like the locals on the grass and have a picnic! Just across the way one of my fave brands Lemaire is here and you can stop in for pastries at Carette.

There are so many streets that are off the beaten path but Le Marais is truly a microcosm of Paris itself—a delightful blend of the old and new, where history meets modern luxury, and every corner holds a story waiting to be discovered. This guide to the best things to do in Le Marais ensures you experience the neighborhood’s cultural depth, culinary delights, and artistic spirit.
I think if I only had a day this is how I’d spend it. It leaves you wanting more for sure, but this is already a solid start.
Whether you’re planning a Paris itinerary or simply looking for unique things to do in Paris, Le Marais promises an unforgettable journey. Even though I live in Montmartre now, my first 6 years were around Le Marai,s and I still spend 50% of my time beeping and bopping around here.
