Shopping and Tax Refunds in Paris: New DIY machines at Galeries Lafayette
At the beginning of the year, I got a few questions on tax refunds on Instagram (make sure you’re following along there too!) and now I can finally set you all straight.
Money money moneeeyyy! (insert ABBA voice)
You remember that thing Carrie Bradshaw said in Sex and The City?
“I like my money where I can see it, hanging in my closet.”
But we all know that even though she’s our iconic shopping goddess and has many qualities we admire, I’m not suggesting that you rack up a shopping debt, or live beyond your means.
So a money saving tip when you travel to Paris is to really rack up on those Tax refund benefits honey!
This month I wanted to share with you some news for everyone coming to Paris to shop (and looking to get their Tax refunds) especially from one of the biggest departments stores Galeries Lafayette!
There’s a new section of the store – I snapped some images below, from my trip there last week (it’s a separate space in the store).

We all know that tax refunds can be a bit of a pain-in-the-you-know-where, especially because of the lines!
You are eligible for a Tax (VAT) refund if you are 16 years of age or older, and a resident of a country outside the EU. Applicable if you buy items (not for resale) on your trip to Paris for at least 175.01 euros, made in store on that same day.
What Galeries Lafayette has done is so cool! You’ll see the new dedicated section with machines where you can DIY the tax refund process, right in the shop and you can even choose to get your money back in store (12%) or at the Airport (10%).
Who is eligible for Tax-Free Shopping at Galeries Lafayette:
Tourists, you’ll receive 12% back on your same-day purchases over 175.01€. Present your passport and receipts at our tax refund counter on the entry-level floor to complete the necessary forms.
Or use the new DIY machines in the Tax refund section.
If you try it let me know your feedback, was it easy, streesfree or not what you expected. I want to keep sharing good tips that will help you on your trip in Paris, so your feedback is much appreciated.

Dear,
I have a urgently question.
I bought down padding in Moncler shop in Galeries lafayette, Paris.
I received the tax refund money directly in cash. And a few days later I left at Frankfurt airport. When I arrived at the airport, I received a stamp from the customs office on the refund document. However, the Global blue company did not accept my documents. There were no other tax refund companies in Frankfurt 2 Terminal. So I took that papers and returned to my country, Korea. I am so curious as to where to send this paper. And I am very curious about what documents to send. Please give me your answer.
Thanks a lot.

kiniHi Kini,
I am so sorry about this mix-up – but I think your situation is one that is best answered by the team at Galeries Lafayette. Did you try to contact them? also by social media?
